John McKendy speaks about alternatives to violence and war, all the way from Renous prison to Afghanistan. McKendy is a member of the Quakers of the Fredericton Peace Coalition and he talks a lot about the history of the Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP) as well as what the program entails. McKendy shows how the prison system is both the cause and a result of violence. He also talks about how incarcerating people is inherently immoral, and explains all the negative effects that it has on people. McKendy finishes by explaining how effective AVP is with initially resistant inmates.
